NSP OTR is a free app for students of the National Informatics Centre in India. The app lets you register in their National Scholarship Portal and complete the one-time registration process. It uses the Aadhaar Face RD service to authenticate users from UIDAI for documentation purposes.
The face authentication service used is unique to this education app, eliminating the need for any random software for that specific function. While it’s not built into the NSP OTR app, it requires you to download the Aadhaar Face RD service as it’s the only one being accepted in the registration process.
A streamlined way to get a scholarship
Before, filing a scholarship application from the National Informatics Centre was slow and lacked automation. You also need to be on the campus and start the process there physically. Now, through their NSP OTR app, you can apply from the comforts of your own home or practically anywhere. The traditional method still exists, but the app is much more convenient and saves you time compared to the lengthy queueing route.
Upon opening, you’ll need to log in or register for an Aadhaar ID with your mobile number to get started. Then, a prompt for OTR will appear, and you must follow the instructions to proceed. After that, you’ll receive a reference number. Next, perform the face authentication using the generated code sent on your device. Afterward, you can now apply for a scholarship on the app.
The app itself is lightweight and straightforward by design. It’s simple and easy to follow — with big text font, an intuitive user interface, and helpful tutorials to familiarize yourself with the steps needed. However, the inclusion of the Aadhaar ID can be confusing to some users since it requires a separate app for it to work, and it doesn’t support older mobile operating system versions.
A welcome choice for NIC scholarship aspirants
The NSP OTR is easy to operate at most times and has a clean user interface, clear text, and straightforward steps. However, the need for another app for face authentication can be confusing and burdensome, since you can forget this essential step and render yourself incapable of continuing. However, this is way more convenient than going to the National Informatics Centre physically while queueing and carrying heavy paperwork.
